The Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1 started its annual Fire Fund Drive in September of 2009. Donation requests were mailed to all Moosic residents and businesses on file asking them to support their local volunteer fire dept. The 2009 Drive is coming to a close and the numbers tell a sad story.

Of the 285+ businesses that were mailed donation requests in 2009, only 34 businesses have sent in donations…that is 11.9%?

This year is no different than the past 4-5 years. Records show the amount of businesses which are located in Moosic has grown, but the financial support remains at 11%. This is very concerning and we are not sure why. It is possible that many businesses think that their local property taxes go toward a “paid” fire dept? In reality, the Emergency Services of Moosic is entirely volunteer and YES, we do need financial support from not only our residential occupancies, but also the local businesses. All funding helps provide Fire, Rescue and QRS services in the community. Department Officials are more than appreciative to the current financial supporters during this difficult economic time. Company members will be formulating a plan to hopefully change this trend.
