Last evening Moosic Borough Mayor & Council recognized the First responders and others who assisted at a fire which occurred at the Oakwood Terrace Personal Care Home in Moosic. On the very cold evening of January 16th at just before 8p the 1st alarm assignment was dispatched for a water flow alarm at this facility. What was a typical response was immediately upgraded as the Chief Officer was met by a frantic employee at the front entrance, reporting an actual fire inside the laundry room. Many of the 46 dementia residents were safely evacuated and relocated to the nearby Moosic Alliance Church while others were sheltered in place in a safe location of the facility that was unaffected as firefighters cleared the fire and accompanying smoke condition. Acknowledgements were presented to each assisting agency by Moosic Fire Chief Chuck Molinaro, Moosic Mayor Jim Segilia and Moosic Council President Stan Kania.
Shown in the photo are representatives from Greenwood Fire, Old Forge Fire, Avoca Fire, Taylor Fire, Duryea Fire, Hughestown Fire, Dickson City Fire, Pennsylvania Ambulance along with folks from Compass Home Health Agency. Oakwood Administrator at the time Janie Starinsky is shown in among the group. A very favorable outcome to a very serious concern. Thank you everyone.
